< The Mane Suite — Low Porosity Hair Guide

Her Result: Low Porosity

Why does product just
sit on top of her hair?

You already know her porosity. Now let's turn that into an actual routine — the products, the order, and the reasons behind both.

Does this sound like her hair?

Dull, lacks shine, limp curls, straw-like and rough, breaks easily — that's dehydrated hair, not enough water getting in. Here's the fix →

Why does it get greasy so fast?

Often it's not oiliness at all — it's product sitting on top. See why →

Why does product just sit on top instead of soaking in?

Her cuticle stays closed until you work with it, not against it →

What order do I even put products on in?

There's an exact sequence built for her porosity →

What Low Porosity Hair Needs

Matched to her porosity

Tip

Use products as directed. Some products require hair to be damp, towel-dried, or wet. Applying incorrectly may result in less efficacy.

How to Layer Her Products

The golden rule: always layer lightest to heaviest. Water-based products go on first, then creams, then oils or butters. A heavy product applied too early blocks the lighter ones from ever reaching the hair.

Why product just sits on top — heavy product versus lightweight moisture penetrating the cuticle, layer smart
LCO Method

Liquid → Cream → Oil

1. Liquid
2. Cream
3. Oil

Best for hair that struggles to let moisture in. A light oil on top seals without blocking future absorption. Good fit for Low and Normal porosity.

LOC Method

Liquid → Oil → Cream

1. Liquid
2. Oil
3. Cream

Best for hair that loses moisture fast. The oil traps water in before the heavier cream sits on top and blocks it from escaping further. Good fit for High porosity and the ends of Mixed porosity hair.

By the Style She's Wearing

Maintenance by style — twists, wash and go, silk press, bun or updo

Twists & Braids

Refresh every 2–3 days · Redo every 4–8 weeks

  • Dilute leave-in in a spray bottle for scalp refreshes
  • Light oil on the scalp if needed
  • Satin scarf or bonnet every night

Wash-and-Go / Twist-Out

Refresh daily or every other day

  • Light water-based mist plus a small amount of gel or cream to reactivate curls
  • Pineapple (loose high pony) at night to preserve the pattern
  • Avoid heavy re-application — it builds up fast between washes

Silk Press

Maintain every 2–3 weeks · Minimize washing

  • Wrap nightly with a silk scarf to preserve the style
  • Avoid humidity and direct water exposure — both cause reversion
  • Dry shampoo at the roots between sessions if needed

Buns & Protective Updos

Redo every 1–2 weeks

  • Add a hydrating oil followed by a moisturizer to keep the ends from drying out
  • Keep tension loose — tight styles over time can stress the hairline

Tip
